Frequently asked questions
Do porcupine dates treat cancer?
No, and we do not claim they do. Porcupine dates are a traditional edible product, not a medicine, and do not replace any cancer treatment. No clinical trial has shown that they treat cancer. Follow the plan set by your treating oncologist.
What does the research say then?
A 2019 study in Pharmacognosy Magazine tested tannin-enriched fractions of porcupine bezoar on cultured human colon cancer cell lines, observing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, with normal colon cells unaffected. That is a result in a dish, and the distance to a human outcome is long.
Can I take it during chemotherapy or radiotherapy?
Ask your treating doctor first. Any supplement can interact with an active treatment protocol, and only a doctor who knows your case and your medication can make that call. We cannot make it for you.
My family wants to prepare some. Where do we start?
Write down the product name and the amount you intend to take and show it to the treating doctor. Once they agree, tell us the expected duration and we will work out the weight and check availability. Do it in that order.
